Lucid Motors (LCID) is taking significant steps to advance the electric vehicle (EV) industry in the United States. By establishing a new alliance with four American producers, Lucid is working towards building a domestic supply chain for EVs to help the country keep up with global competitors like China.
The Minerals for National Automotive Competitiveness Collaboration (MINAC) is the latest initiative by Lucid to strengthen the US supply chain for EVs. This alliance, launched by Lucid in partnership with Alaska Energy Metals, Graphite One, Electric Metals, and RecycLiCo, aims to accelerate the development of domestic critical mineral resources for use in automotive manufacturing by US-based automakers and Tier 1 suppliers.
Lucid’s MINAC alliance will focus on several key initiatives, including advancing domestic mineral production through off-take agreements, identifying and resolving barriers to commercialization, expanding coordination between the mining and automotive sectors, and supporting the qualification and procurement of domestically produced materials by US automakers and suppliers.
Marc Winterhoff, Lucid’s Interim CEO, expressed his commitment to powering American innovation through these partnerships. He emphasized the company’s dedication to building the next generation of automotive manufacturing in the United States.
This collaboration follows Lucid’s recent agreement with Graphite One, making it the first US EV manufacturer to strike a deal with an American graphite company. The new graphite materials will be used in Lucid’s upcoming midsize platform, set to launch in the second half of 2026. This platform will introduce at least three new models, including a midsize electric SUV and sedan, with a starting price of around $50,000 to compete with Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3.
Winterhoff highlighted the importance of continuous innovation to compete with Chinese EV manufacturers during an interview. Lucid and its partners will host a roundtable discussion in Washington, DC, to further discuss their collaborative efforts in advancing the US EV industry.
As Lucid continues to make strides in the EV sector and establish strong partnerships within the US, the future looks promising for American electric vehicle manufacturing. Stay tuned for more updates on Lucid’s progress in shaping the future of EVs in the United States.
