The Luxeed R7 EREV, a range extended variant of the Luxeed R7 fastback SUV developed by Huawei and Chery, has garnered significant attention in China. Following the success of the electric variant, which received 30,000 firm orders within 33 days of its launch, the EREV model is set to hit the market as hybrid cars gain popularity.
Luxeed, a collaborative effort between Chery and Huawei established in 2023, has introduced a range of electric vehicles, including the S7 electric sedan and the R7 electric crossover. While Chery handles the development and production of Luxeed cars, Huawei supplies essential components and the operating system. The Luxeed vehicles are sold through Huawei’s HIMA network alongside other models.
Despite selling 21,422 units domestically from January to October 2024, the joint Chery-Huawei brand aims to boost its sales with the introduction of the Luxeed R7 EREV. The all-electric R7 fastback SUV, launched in late September, received an overwhelming response, leading to the decision to unveil the EREV variant.
The exterior design of the Luxeed R7 EREV closely resembles its electric counterpart, featuring sleek LED headlights, a low beltline, and distinctive retractable door handles. Notable features include glossy bumpers, a ducktail spoiler, and a unique air intake in the front bumper for the EREV model. Optional enhancements such as a LiDAR sensor on the roof are also available.
Measuring 4956/1981/1634 mm with a wheelbase of 2950 mm, the Luxeed R7 EREV offers a spacious interior with five seats. Weighing 2,298 kg, the vehicle rides on 225/50 R20 or 255/45 R21 wheels, with a gross weight of 2,735 kg.
The powertrain details of the Luxeed R7 EREV remain limited, but it is built on the E0X modular architecture by Chery. Equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged SQRH4J15 engine generating 115 kW (154 hp), the vehicle boasts a top speed of 200 km/h and a fuel consumption of 0.46 L/100km.
Drawing inspiration from the successful Exlantix ET crossover by Chery, which features a single e-motor in the rear axle and a 32-kWh LFP battery, the Luxeed R7 EREV is expected to offer a similar powertrain configuration. With a focus on efficiency and performance, the Luxeed R7 EREV promises to deliver a compelling driving experience for hybrid car enthusiasts.
