Nio is gearing up to launch its third brand, Firefly, at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, with the head of the sub-brand recently revealed as Daniel Jin. Jin, a seasoned automotive industry veteran, joined Nio in January 2022 after spending over a decade at SAIC Motor Corp.

During a media meetup on December 12, Nio’s founder and CEO William Li introduced Jin as the head of the Firefly brand. Jin, who previously held the position of “Vehicle Line Executive Director- Luxury, Compact & MPV Group” at SAIC-GM, has quickly climbed the ranks at Nio, being promoted to Vice President in September of this year.

Jin’s LinkedIn profile sheds light on his impressive career trajectory, starting at SAIC Motor in 2007 as a Program Manager and eventually moving to SAIC Motor UK Technical Centre in Birmingham before returning to Shanghai in 2011. His extensive experience in the automotive industry makes him a valuable addition to Nio’s leadership team.

Nio officially unveiled the Firefly brand on November 20, with plans to begin deliveries of its first model in the first half of 2025. The upcoming Nio Day 2024 will focus on the introduction of the Firefly brand, along with the anticipated launch of the Nio ET9. Pricing information for these new models is expected to be revealed at the event.

Jin’s previous role at SAIC-GM saw him representing the company during the launch of the Buick GL8 Avenir MPV in April 2020. His insights into the needs of Chinese consumers played a vital role in the development of the product, showcasing his expertise in the industry.

Nio’s other sub-brand, Onvo, was launched earlier this year, with the L60 model hitting the market in September. The president of Onvo, Alan Ai, brings a wealth of experience from his previous role at the Shanghai Disney Resort and shares a connection with Nio through owning the Nio ES8 Founding Edition.

As Nio prepares to unveil its latest offerings at Nio Day 2024, all eyes are on Firefly and the innovative models set to redefine the electric vehicle market. With Daniel Jin at the helm of the brand, Nio is poised for continued success in the ever-evolving automotive industry.
