Mercedes-Benz Unveils New Design Language Emphasizing Respect

Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce a new design language for its upcoming models, with a focus on “respect” as a key element. This move comes as the luxury carmaker looks to differentiate itself from competitors and enhance the desirability of its vehicles in a crowded market.

Gorden Wagener, the design boss at Mercedes, spoke to Autocar at the Shanghai motor show about the importance of maintaining a unique identity in a sea of similar-looking cars. He emphasized the emotional connection that luxury car buyers have with their vehicles, stating that a Mercedes should be more than just a means of transportation.

According to Wagener, luxury is about wanting something rather than needing it, and Mercedes aims to provide its customers with a sense of respect and recognition through its design language. He highlighted the Vision V concept showcased at the Shanghai motor show as a preview of the brand’s future design direction.

One of the key design elements that Mercedes will focus on is its iconic signature grille, which sets its cars apart from the competition and exudes a sense of status and respect. Wagener stressed that it’s not about making the grille bigger, but rather emphasizing the shape and recognizability of the front end to convey a sense of respect.

Overall, Mercedes plans to put more emphasis on respect in its vehicle designs to cater to the expectations of its discerning customers. By combining elements of love and respect in its design language, Mercedes aims to strengthen its position as a leading luxury car manufacturer.
