A production version of the MG Cyber X concept could be on UK roads by 2027
A production version of the MG Cyber X concept could be hitting UK roads as soon as 2027, according to UK boss David Allison in an interview with Autocar. The rugged and boxy SUV concept, which offers a glimpse into the second model in MG’s stylish Cyber lineup, was first unveiled earlier this year at the Shanghai motor show.
David Allison expressed his optimism about the rapid development process within the company, stating, “It’s not unusual that we will show something and very, very quickly it turns into a real thing.” He also hinted at the possibility of a production-ready version of the Cyber X hitting the UK market in the near future.
The Cyber X is a bold and rugged two-box crossover with 4×4 inspiration, measuring 4.3 meters in length – placing it in a similar size category as the Land Rover Defender 90. With its concept form lacking an interior, MG’s parent company SAIC’s design chief Jozef Kaban suggested that the speedy development process in China could swiftly prepare the Cyber X for production.
Allison emphasized the importance of the UK market for MG, stating that the UK is the brand’s largest market. He highlighted the influence that the UK team has over future product developments, particularly in terms of positioning and features that cater to the UK market’s preferences.
The chief designer Kaban explained that the primary goal of the Cyber X concept is to showcase the potential expansion of MG’s enthusiast-focused Cyber lineup and to introduce a new character to the MG family. He emphasized the importance of delivering a pleasurable driving experience that goes beyond simply getting from point A to point B.
While the Cyber X offers a preview of a potential sibling to the Cyberster electric sports car, it takes a drastically different design approach to appeal to a broader audience. Kaban’s strategy is to create a diverse Cyber lineup that appeals to a wide range of consumers, with contrasting design elements that bring people together.
