New Mild-Hybrid Diesel Toyota Hilux Now Available in the UK
A new mild-hybrid diesel Toyota Hilux has recently hit the market in the UK, starting at a price of £49,640. Toyota claims that this updated version offers the same level of capability as the standard model but with added benefits in terms of refinement and responsiveness.
The vehicle is equipped with a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, which has been enhanced with an electric motor-generator and a 48V lithium-ion battery. These additions help to reduce strain on the engine, providing improvements in performance.
One notable advantage of the mild-hybrid system is its ability to lower the engine’s idle speed from 720rpm to 600rpm, as well as contribute a significant portion of power for maintaining a steady cruising speed.
Furthermore, the hybrid technology results in quicker power delivery compared to the standard diesel engine, enhancing the vehicle’s control during off-road driving scenarios.
In terms of capabilities, the mild-hybrid Hilux retains all the features of the regular model, including the ability to traverse water up to 700mm deep. It also offers six different drive modes tailored for off-road conditions, such as rock crawling, deep snow, and muddy terrain.
The vehicle boasts a total power output of 201bhp and 369lb ft of torque, transmitted to all four corners through a six-speed automatic gearbox. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.7 seconds, with payload and towing capacities remaining unchanged at 1000kg and 3500kg, respectively.
Available exclusively on the range-topping Hilux Invincible X Double Cab, the new engine variant will be classified as a company car for benefit-in-kind tax purposes starting from 6 April 2025. With CO2 emissions of 265g/km, it falls into the highest BIK bracket of 37%, resulting in a BIK cost of £7289 for individuals in the 40% income tax bracket – nearly double the previous flat rate of £3960.
