Chinese Electric Car Neta Aya Faces Range Issues

Recently, Chinese media reported a concerning story about a Neta Aya electric car that has drastically lost its range after just 1.5 years of use. The car owner, Ms. He from Huzhou in Zhejiang Province, shared her experience in a video, highlighting the challenges she is facing.

Ms. He purchased the Neta Aya in May 2023 for 76,000 yuan (approximately 10,400 USD). The car was advertised to have a range of 401 km, but Ms. He noticed a significant drop in range during cold weather conditions. The range plummeted to around 60 kilometers, making it difficult for her to use the car for her daily commute.

Seeking assistance from Neta, Ms. He took her car to the Anji Neta 4S store for repairs. The dealership diagnosed the issue as a failed battery pack that needed replacement. However, they informed Ms. He that the battery pack was out of stock, leaving her stranded with a car that can only drive 40 kilometers on a single charge.

With her daily commute totaling 42 km, the limited range of the car has caused significant inconvenience for Ms. He. The dealership offered her a temporary replacement vehicle, described as a daibuche, to use until the battery pack is available. However, this alternative mode of transportation is not as comfortable or reliable as her Neta Aya.

Despite numerous attempts to escalate the issue to Neta’s national customer service and maintenance team, Ms. He has not received a definitive timeline for when the battery pack will be replaced. The dealership has been in contact with the manufacturer, but the lack of availability of the battery pack remains a major concern.

The Neta Aya, originally launched in February 2023, offers different range options and motor specifications. However, Neta, a brand under Hozon Auto, has been plagued with financial difficulties and rumors of bankruptcy. The company’s founder, Fang Yunzhou, recently took over as CEO to address the challenges faced by the brand.

It is essential for electric car manufacturers to address issues like battery degradation promptly to maintain customer trust and satisfaction. The case of Ms. He’s Neta Aya highlights the importance of a reliable after-sales service network and adequate spare parts availability for electric vehicles.
