New 2027 Dacia Sandero will be redesigned but remain a hatchback

The upcoming iteration of the Dacia Sandero is set to maintain its traditional hatchback design, while also introducing an electric variant and incorporating design elements inspired by the rugged Duster and Bigster SUVs. Slated for release in 2027, the next-generation Sandero will be a significant evolution of the current model, built on the Renault Group’s CMF-B platform to accommodate both combustion engines and electric powertrains.

In a recent interview at the Brussels motor show, Dacia’s design chief, David Durand, emphasized the brand’s commitment to a robust and utilitarian design language, without straying into full SUV territory. He expressed that while the off-road aesthetic is appealing, the Sandero’s identity as a practical and well-crafted vehicle for a wide range of customers remains paramount.

Durand highlighted the importance of maintaining the Sandero’s hatchback body style, citing its versatility, compact size, and fuel efficiency as key factors in meeting customer needs. He stressed the significance of aerodynamics and reducing CO2 emissions in the design process to ensure the Sandero remains a competitive option in the market.

When questioned about the possibility of transforming the Sandero into a mini-SUV like the Citroën C3, Durand firmly stated that the Sandero will remain a hatchback, with any redesign focusing on enhancing its existing characteristics rather than adopting a new body type. He also emphasized the distinction between the standard Sandero and the higher-riding Sandero Stepway, noting that they cater to different consumer preferences and should be kept separate in the lineup.

Durand acknowledged the success of the Sandero Stepway as a distinct model within the range, appealing to a unique set of customers who prioritize practicality over rugged styling. While considering the option of further differentiating the two models, he underscored the importance of cost efficiency and shared components between the Sandero and Sandero Stepway to keep prices accessible for consumers.

In conclusion, Dacia’s approach to the next-generation Sandero focuses on enhancing its core qualities of spaciousness, efficiency, and practicality, while incorporating design elements inspired by the brand’s SUV lineup. By staying true to its hatchback roots and maintaining a balance between innovation and affordability, Dacia aims to continue offering a compelling option for customers seeking a reliable and versatile vehicle.
