New Ford-based Volkswagen DoKa electric pickup is ready for work

Volkswagen has just unveiled its latest commercial vehicle, and it’s not a typical retro-style van. Instead, the new e-Transporter DoKa is a crew cab, flatbed-style pickup truck with a fully electric powertrain. This modern pickup offers room for six passengers, serious payload capacity, and all the amenities you would expect from a modern vehicle.

The e-Transporter DoKa is built on a longer version of the new Volkswagen Transporter van chassis, which is based on the Ford Transit. It features a crew cab design with a flatbed style cargo area, providing ample space for tools, gear, or even a pallet of appliances. The truck rides on a 3,500 mm wheelbase and measures 5,613 mm in overall length, making it longer than the Ranger-based Amarok.

Under the hood, the e-Transporter DoKa is powered by a 100 kW electric motor that produces 415 Nm of torque in the base models, and up to 210 kW in the top-spec versions. The truck is equipped with a 64 kWh battery and offers ultra-quick charging capabilities. It has a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,225 kg and a payload capacity between 348 and 785 kg, making it a capable work truck.

The e-Transporter DoKa is priced starting at €52,208 ($60,527) before VAT, with options available to customize the truck for specialized work. While it may not be as stylish as the ID.Buzz, this new electric pickup stays true to Volkswagen’s history of building van-based flatbed trucks. It offers a practical and efficient solution for those in need of a reliable work truck with a modern electric powertrain.

Overall, the e-Transporter DoKa is a versatile and practical option for those looking for a Volkswagen-based work truck that combines the spirit of the original T2 with modern technology and performance. Volkswagen’s latest electric pickup is a nod to its heritage while offering all the benefits of a modern electric vehicle.
