Nissan is gearing up to unveil the highly anticipated third-generation Nissan Leaf later this month, with plans for a market launch by the end of the year. The new Leaf, set to rival the Skoda Elroq, will be produced at Nissan’s Sunderland factory in the coming months.
The development of the new Leaf has been heavily influenced by insights gained from the previous two generations of the iconic electric vehicle. With over 700,000 Leafs sold since 2010 and customers covering more than 28 billion kilometers, Nissan has a deep understanding of evolving customer needs.
One of the key improvements in the new Leaf is its aerodynamic efficiency, boasting a coefficient of just 0.25 in European trim compared to the Mk2 car’s 0.28. This enhancement has contributed to the Leaf’s impressive claimed maximum range of 372 miles. Additionally, the option of an electrochromic dimming panoramic roof with heat shielding will be available, eliminating the need for physical blinds and preserving headroom in the rear.
The new Leaf marks a significant departure from its predecessors, moving away from the conventional hatchback design to capitalize on the rising popularity of higher-riding vehicles. Built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-EV platform, which is shared with the Nissan Ariya, the Leaf will also be closely related to the upcoming Nissan Juke EV.
While specific technical details are yet to be disclosed, Nissan’s European product boss François Bailly emphasized the focus on real-world range. The design of the new Leaf, according to Nissan’s global design boss Alfonso Albaisa, aims to democratize technology with a modern, simple, and attractive aesthetic. The interior is described as super-tech with an open and cool feel.
With its innovative design and enhanced features, the new Nissan Leaf is set to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for the official reveal of the third-generation Leaf and experience the future of sustainable mobility.
