Introducing the Range Rover Electric: A Modernist Design Language
Painted all in black and without the contrasting matt trim elements that JLR has previously suggested will mark out the EV powertrain, the prototype looks all but identical to the ICE Range Rover that has been on sale since 2022.
According to JLR, this prototype showcases how the “modernist design language stays true to the Range Rover bloodline”, indicating that the Range Rover Electric will maintain subtle similarities to the traditional straight-six, V8, and plug-in hybrid models.
JLR has revealed that the Range Rover Electric is the first car to utilize a battery and electric drive unit assembled in-house. While specific technical details and performance figures have not been disclosed, it has been confirmed that the vehicle will utilize an 800V charging architecture.
Although exact performance metrics have not been released, JLR has assured customers that the Range Rover Electric will maintain the same off-road capabilities as its ICE counterpart. The electric SUV is expected to offer towing, wading, and all-terrain capabilities that surpass other luxury electric SUVs, including the ability to wade through water depths of up to 850mm.
The suggestion that the Range Rover Electric will deliver performance “comparable” to the existing V8 model hints at a total output nearing the 523bhp offered by the V8 variant.
