New York commits $21 million to support zero-emission mobility

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is taking a proactive approach to combatting air pollution and improving transportation options for her constituents. With over $21 million in funding allocated for zero-emission mobility and transportation solutions, the Clean Mobility Program aims to support scalable projects that prioritize micro mobility, ride sharing, and community-managed on-demand shared transportation.

The program is designed to not only reduce air pollution but also provide residents with affordable transportation options that connect them to essential services, jobs, and public transit. By investing in these solutions, Governor Hochul hopes to address the needs of underserved communities and promote a more sustainable future for all New Yorkers.

The Clean Mobility Program offers up to $21.6 million in funding for projects across the state, with priority given to disadvantaged communities identified by the Climate Justice Working Group. Additionally, specific areas, including those served by upstate investor-owned utilities, have dedicated funding for demonstration projects. These projects may include micro mobility initiatives in certain regions and other eligible demonstration projects in areas like the Bronx.

To be eligible for funding, proposals for demonstration projects must include detailed planning documents that cover community engagement, site identification, operations, project partner identification, technical feasibility assessment, and policy and regulatory feasibility assessment. Any e-bikes or e-scooters deployed in these projects must meet industry and state safety standards.

Interested parties have until September 25, 2025, to submit their proposals for consideration. More information on this funding opportunity can be found on the NYSERDA website.

Governor Hochul’s commitment to investing in clean transportation options aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality. By prioritizing green initiatives like the Clean Mobility Program, New York is paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

Overall, Governor Hochul’s latest plan demonstrates a clear commitment to prioritizing the needs of New Yorkers and promoting a cleaner, greener transportation system for all. With the success of past initiatives like the implementation of congestion pricing in New York City, it’s clear that these proactive measures can lead to tangible improvements in the quality of life for residents.
