Nio, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, achieved a significant milestone by adding a record 64 battery swap stations in China in a single day, bringing the total number to 2,995 as 2024 comes to a close.

This achievement surpasses the previous single-day record of 46 stations set on August 31, 2023. The company currently has 949 battery swap stations along China’s highways, covering 18 major highways in the country.

Despite falling short of its previously announced plan to add 1,000 stations in 2024, Nio has made significant progress by adding 679 battery swap stations this year. The company expects to reach the 3,000 milestone in the next day or two.

On December 29, Nio announced that it had achieved its target of having 1,000 battery swap stations available to its sub-brand Onvo by the end of 2024. This milestone reflects the company’s commitment to expanding its infrastructure to support the growing demand for electric vehicles in China.

To date, Nio has completed approximately 61.53 million battery swaps, demonstrating the popularity and efficiency of its battery swap technology. In addition to the battery swap stations, the company also added 30 supercharging stations today, bringing the total number of facilities in China to 2,592, with 11,976 charging piles.

Nio Inc reported delivering 20,575 vehicles in November, with 15,493 vehicles under the Nio main brand and 5,082 under Onvo. The company expects fourth-quarter vehicle deliveries to be in the range of 72,000 to 75,000, indicating that it could deliver at least 30,449 vehicles in December.

Insurance registrations for Nio-branded vehicles in China have been on the rise, with 6,500 registrations reported in the week of December 23 to December 29, up 20.37 percent from the previous week. Onvo also saw a record 4,200 insurance registrations last week, double the previous week’s numbers.

Nio and other major local EV manufacturers are expected to release their December delivery figures tomorrow, providing further insights into the growth and demand for electric vehicles in the Chinese market. The company’s continued expansion of its battery swap and charging infrastructure underscores its commitment to providing convenient and efficient services to its customers.
