Nio Firefly’s 1st model to be launched on Apr 19, will still use Nio swap stations

Nio’s Firefly brand is gearing up for its first model launch on April 19, with plans to utilize Nio’s battery swap stations instead of CATL’s. This decision was revealed by Daniel Jin, the president of Firefly, who also mentioned that future models under the brand will incorporate CATL’s Choco-Swap standard and network.

The partnership between Nio and CATL aims to establish the world’s largest battery swap service network, with Firefly models set to benefit from CATL’s advanced technology. The introduction of Choco-Swap technology into Firefly’s upcoming models has generated significant interest in the brand, prompting Jin to elaborate on the battery swap station strategy for the Nio sub-brand.

During the initial phase of Firefly’s launch, Nio plans to establish demonstration battery swap stations in cities with a high concentration of users. These stations will serve as a precursor to the integration of Firefly models with Nio’s fifth-generation battery swap stations in the future.

The upcoming models currently in pre-research will feature CATL’s Choco-Swap standard and network, further enhancing the efficiency and convenience of battery swapping for Firefly owners. The first Firefly model, positioned as a premium boutique small car, is set to compete with the likes of BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz’s Smart in the global market.

Powered by a 42.1 kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 420 kilometers, the Firefly model offers a compelling package for eco-conscious consumers. While there were speculations about the use of CATL battery packs in the model, a regulatory filing confirmed that the Firefly utilizes LFP batteries supplied by Sunwoda, a first-time partner for Nio.

With the official launch of the Firefly brand on Nio Day 2024, the automotive industry eagerly awaits the arrival of this innovative new model. As Nio continues to expand its battery swap network and incorporate cutting-edge technologies, Firefly models are set to redefine the electric vehicle landscape with their blend of style, performance, and sustainability.
