Nio reaches 3,000 swap stations in China

Nio, a leading electric vehicle (EV) maker, has achieved a significant milestone by reaching 3,000 battery swap stations in China. The company’s 3,000th battery swap station was recently inaugurated in Harbin, Heilongjiang province in northeast China. This achievement underscores Nio’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development for electric vehicles in the country.

The journey to 3,000 battery swap stations began with the completion of Nio’s first station in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018. Since then, the company has steadily expanded its network, with the 1,000th station going live on July 6, 2022, and the 2,000th on October 26, 2023. To date, Nio has facilitated approximately 61.7 million battery swaps across its network.

In addition to the battery swap stations, Nio boasts one of the largest charging networks in China. The company currently operates 2,599 supercharging stations with 12,023 superchargers and 1,676 destination charging stations with 13,061 charging piles across the country.

Despite facing challenges in 2024, Nio managed to add 679 battery swap stations during the year, falling short of its target to add 1,000 stations. However, the company did achieve its goal of having 1,000 stations available to its sub-brand Onvo by the end of 2024.

Nio unveiled its Power Up Counties program at the Power Up 2024 event, aiming to expand its battery swap station network to cover more than 2,300 counties in China by December 31, 2025. The company also plans to extend its charging network to all county-level administrative areas in China by June 30, 2025.

In international markets, Nio currently operates 59 battery swap stations in Europe, further solidifying its presence in the global EV market. As Nio continues to expand its infrastructure and reach new milestones, the company remains at the forefront of the electric vehicle industry, driving innovation and sustainability forward.
