Nio continues to expand its network of battery swap stations with a new partnership agreement to build 100 stations in Changsha, Hunan province. This marks the second such deal in recent days, highlighting the company’s commitment to infrastructure development.
The agreement was signed between a subsidiary of Nio Power in Changsha and Hunan Oriental Intelligence, a subsidiary of the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Group. The two parties plan to collaborate on building the battery swap stations in Hunan and explore connecting them to Oriental Intelligence’s virtual power plants for grid demand response.
The initial phase will see the deployment of 10 battery swap stations at transportation hubs and industrial parks in Changsha. Nio Power already operates over 90 battery swap stations and 630 charging piles in Hunan, providing users with more than 1.5 million battery swap services.
Just a few days prior, Nio signed a similar agreement with Future Science City Group in Beijing to build 100 battery swap stations in the capital. This comes after a previous partnership with Wuhan Shouyi Scientific Innovation Investment Group to establish 100 stations in Hubei.
The initiatives are part of Nio’s Power Up Partners program, launched in 2024 to accelerate infrastructure construction by collaborating with partners. The company aims to leverage these partnerships to save on capital expenditure while expanding its network of battery swap stations and charging facilities.
Nio founder and CEO William Li emphasized that funding for the construction of battery swap stations this year will primarily come from partners. Currently, Nio has a total of 3,239 battery swap stations and 25,957 charging piles across China, showcasing its commitment to providing convenient and efficient charging solutions for electric vehicle users.
In conclusion, Nio’s strategic partnerships and ongoing infrastructure development efforts are crucial steps towards promoting the adoption of electric vehicles and creating a seamless charging experience for customers. The company’s focus on expanding its network of battery swap stations reflects its dedication to innovation and sustainability in the EV industry.
