Japanese Car-Making Industry Could See Major Shake-Up with Reported Honda and Nissan Merger Talks
The rumored merger discussions between Honda and Nissan have the potential to significantly reshape the Japanese automotive landscape, potentially dividing it into two powerful entities.
As of now, both Honda and Nissan have not officially confirmed any plans for a merger. However, reports first surfaced on 17 December in the Japanese newspaper Nikkei. It is worth noting that the two companies had previously collaborated on software and electric vehicles back in August.
If a merger were to come to fruition, it would result in the formation of a formidable automotive powerhouse with an annual sales figure exceeding seven million cars, based on the sales data from the previous year for both companies.
This move would position the new entity in contention for the third spot in the global automotive sales rankings, alongside Hyundai Group, which recorded sales of 7.3 million units last year.
