Onvo, a Chinese automaker, is gearing up to launch its second car, reportedly named L80. The vehicle has completed a trial production test and is set to enter a tooling trial (TT) soon. Following the TT phase, the car will move on to start production (SOP).
A leaked picture of Onvo’s second car, shared by Chinese automotive blogger 贺磊, hints at the vehicle’s imminent market debut. According to information from Onvo executives, the L80 is scheduled to be unveiled in Q1 2025, with a planned launch in May. However, there are conflicting reports suggesting that the final name of the car might be L90, although Onvo has not officially confirmed this.
The L80 is expected to be a large six or seven-seater SUV with three rows of seats. Onvo claims that the vehicle will offer ample interior space, positioning it to compete with models like the Li Auto L8 and L9. The company emphasizes that while the L60 is suitable for a family of three, the L80 will cater to larger families, making it a compelling option for those in need of a spacious SUV.
Onvo made its debut in the automotive market last year with the launch of its first car. In 2024, the company managed to deliver 20,761 units of the L60 mid-size SUV. Looking ahead, Onvo has ambitious sales targets, aiming to sell 240,000 vehicles under the brand in 2025. The initial reception of the L60 has been positive, with approximately 6,000 units sold in China within the first three weeks of January.
Within the Nio group, Onvo joins the premium Nio brand and the budget Firefly brand. The Firefly brand, initially targeted at European customers, recently introduced the Firefly EV hatchback in China, priced at $20,000. This diverse brand portfolio allows the Nio group to cater to a wide range of customers with varying needs and preferences.
