Great Wall Motor to Introduce Haval SUV Brand in the UK
Great Wall Motor, the Chinese company known for the Ora Funky Cat, is set to expand its UK portfolio next year with the introduction of the SUV brand Haval. This move comes after the successful launch of the Ora brand in 2022, which saw the release of the electric hatchback now known as the GWM Ora 03.
The company aims to provide a wider range of choices for customers as it enhances its overall product offering. To reflect this expansion, GWM will rebrand as simply GWM in the UK, with all dealers adopting a new look by mid-February 2025.
The first Haval model to hit UK showrooms will be the Jolion Pro, a hybrid SUV comparable in size to popular models like the Nissan X-Trail and Kia Sorento. Powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into a seven-speed automatic gearbox, the Jolion Pro delivers a combined output of 188bhp and 277lb ft of torque.
With a claimed 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds and an average fuel efficiency of 55mpg, the Jolion Pro is a promising addition to the hybrid SUV market. The interior features a minimalist design, highlighted by a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and digital gauge cluster. Physical buttons are conveniently placed below the screen, along with additional controls on the steering wheel and center console.
While pricing details are yet to be announced, a starting price in the mid-£30,000s would position the Jolion Pro competitively against other hybrid SUVs like the BYD Seal U and Jaecoo 7. GWM has highlighted the Jolion Pro’s success in markets like Australia and promises to reveal more about the UK specification in the coming weeks.
With hopes of expanding its presence in the UK, especially after selling just 3000 units of the Funk Cat/Ora 03 since its launch, Great Wall Motor is banking on the popularity of hybrid SUVs to attract a wider audience.
