Peugeot has unveiled the new e-208 GTi, a high-performance version of its popular electric hatchback. The standout feature of the e-208 GTi is its large wheels, which have been fitted to the GTi’s low-set stance with wheel-arch extensions adorned with bright red stripes that complement the body’s paintwork.
Inside, the 205 references continue with bucket seats featuring red and black panels, as well as red-trimmed floor mats. The cabin remains largely the same as the standard e-208, but with the addition of Alcantara on the seats and steering wheel for a more premium feel.
Peugeot has also made modifications to the e-208 GTi’s battery performance. While the car features the same 54kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt pack as the standard model, the software has been adapted using technology from Peugeot’s hybrid-powered 9X8 endurance racer. This has resulted in improved temperature management under high loads and enhanced energy recovery.
The battery pack provides a range of 217 miles on a single charge and can be fast-charged from 20-80% in less than 30 minutes on a 100kW DC connection. Jean-Marc Finot, senior vice-president of Stellantis’s motorsport operations, stated that the e-208 GTi embodies Peugeot’s commitment to performance and innovation, drawing on the brand’s extensive race pedigree.
Having been involved in the development of the original 205 GTi and the 206 GTi 180, Finot emphasized that the new e-208 GTi will deliver the typical Peugeot GTi agility and steering feel that enthusiasts have come to expect.
Overall, the new Peugeot e-208 GTi is a blend of performance and innovation, combining the best of Peugeot’s racing heritage with cutting-edge electric technology. With its striking design elements and enhanced battery performance, the e-208 GTi promises to deliver a thrilling driving experience for enthusiasts of the iconic GTi badge.
