Polestar 3 Breaks World Record for Journey Record Attempt
During a recent world record attempt, the Polestar 3 team faced a unique challenge – to complete a journey record without using the same road twice. This meant navigating a very large loop while adhering to normal speed limits on public roads. Any deviation from the planned route could have jeopardized their chances of setting a new record.
One particular obstacle arose when the team reached Melton Mowbray towards the end of the run, only to discover that several roads were closed due to a cycle race scheduled for the next day. Quick thinking from the navigator helped them find a diversion route without significantly impacting their remaining range.
According to Clarke, the journey record is more relevant than the outright range record as it simulates real-world conditions on proper roads at normal speeds. While not everyone may achieve the same ranges, the team exceeded WLTP figures by a significant margin, demonstrating the potential for increased range with more efficient driving habits.
Clarke emphasized the impact of driving efficiently, stating that small adjustments in driving behavior can lead to substantial gains in range. By simply being more mindful of accelerator inputs, drivers can unlock greater potential in electric vehicles.
