Polestar 5 prototype review | Autocar

The Polestar 5 is breaking new ground in the world of electric vehicles with its innovative bonded extruded aluminium chassis. While this technology has been used in low-volume sports cars like Lotus in the past, the Polestar 5 is the first volume model to utilize this method.

The engineers behind the Polestar 5 attribute its success to the ideal circumstances that the company finds itself in. While this manufacturing process may make each car more expensive to produce, the cost of tooling is significantly lower than traditional steel stamping methods. This makes it economically feasible for a volume model like the Polestar 5. Additionally, the flexibility of this method allows for easy modifications without exorbitant costs.

Named the Polestar 5 as the brand’s fifth car, this model serves as a manifesto for what Polestar stands for – electric vehicles with exceptional design, driving dynamics, and sustainability. The car is built on a platform that provides the necessary stiffness and will be used in future models like the Polestar 6 roadster.

Unlike other electric saloons on the market, the Polestar 5 was designed from the ground up to prioritize interior space and comfort. With double wishbones at the front, an ultra-thin battery, and low seat rails, the Polestar 5 offers a spacious and comfortable saloon experience. Visually, the Polestar 5 stands out with its wide stance and low profile, giving it a unique and sleek appearance.

In conclusion, the Polestar 5 represents a new era of electric vehicles, combining cutting-edge technology with a focus on design and sustainability. With its bonded extruded aluminium chassis and innovative design, the Polestar 5 is setting new standards in the automotive industry.
