Polestar urges Europe not to postpone 2035 ICE car ban

Polestar, the electric car manufacturer, has made a strong plea to the European Commission (EC) to stick to its plan of banning the sale of non-electric cars by 2035. This comes ahead of crucial talks scheduled for this Friday, where industry leaders will meet with EC president Ursula von der Leyen to discuss a possible relaxation of CO2 rules. While many in the automotive industry are pushing for a relaxation of the ban, Polestar and its sibling company Volvo have taken a firm stand in favor of maintaining the commitment to all-electric vehicles.

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller emphasized that the decision to transition to all-electric vehicles had already been made after thorough discussions, and any attempt to reverse this decision would be a step in the wrong direction. He highlighted that even those advocating for a relaxation of the ban agreed on the importance of moving towards emissions-free mobility.

The stance taken by Polestar reflects a broader shift in the automotive industry towards electrification and sustainability. With concerns about climate change mounting, many automakers are ramping up their efforts to produce electric vehicles and reduce their carbon footprint. Polestar’s commitment to all-electric vehicles aligns with the growing consensus that the future of transportation lies in emission-free technologies.

In a world where environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly important, the push towards electric vehicles is seen as a crucial step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change. By advocating for the ban on non-electric cars, Polestar is positioning itself as a leader in the transition towards a greener and more sustainable future for the automotive industry.

As discussions with the European Commission unfold, it remains to be seen how the automotive industry will navigate the transition to electric vehicles and address the challenges posed by climate change. Polestar’s unwavering commitment to all-electric vehicles serves as a reminder of the urgent need for sustainable transportation solutions and the industry’s role in driving positive change for the environment.
