Renault to Revive Iconic 5 Turbo with Turbo 3E Model
Original Renault 5 Turbos are becoming increasingly rare, with prices soaring past £150,000 for the best examples. However, Renault is set to revive this iconic model with the introduction of the Turbo 3E, a high-performance version that promises to deliver power, efficiency, technology, innovation, and top-notch quality.
Renaud Cambolive, a Renault executive, expressed confidence in the Turbo 3E’s appeal, stating that price would not be a barrier for enthusiasts who appreciate the brand’s rich heritage in producing ultra-sporty cars. He emphasized the importance of delivering a compelling product that lives up to Renault’s legacy of performance.
While previous Renault hot hatches bore the Renault Sport moniker, the Turbo 3E will not carry this branding. Cambolive explained that the focus is on developing exceptional products, and reintroducing the Renault Sport name without a strong product lineup would not be meaningful. However, he hinted at future performance models following the Turbo 3E, suggesting a gradual approach to building Renault’s sporty portfolio.
Bruno Vanel, Renault’s product chief, teased that the Turbo 3E would offer an exhilarating driving experience unlike anything seen before. The innovative drivetrain, featuring two in-wheel motors, allows for precise control of each wheel, enhancing agility and responsiveness on the road. Vanel highlighted the freedom of movement that the in-wheel technology provides, eliminating the need for electronic differentials or simulated gearshifts.
Rumors suggest that the in-wheel technology utilized in the Turbo 3E may have been sourced from British specialist Protean Electric, a leading provider in this field. This cutting-edge technology sets the Turbo 3E apart from its competitors, promising a unique and thrilling driving sensation for enthusiasts.
