Ram recalling 33,777 pickups due to stability control issue

Stellantis, the parent company of Ram Trucks, has issued a recall for certain 2025 Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a potential safety issue. The affected vehicles, totaling 33,777 units, may have damaged components that could disable the stability control system. Stability control is a crucial safety feature that helps prevent skidding and spinning, ultimately aiding in maintaining control of the vehicle.

The specific defect identified in the recall is a damaged front wheel bearing encoder ring, which could result in a loss of wheel-speed signal to the stability control system. This loss of signal can impede the system’s ability to intervene and prevent potential crashes. Stellantis has stated that they estimate only 1% of the affected vehicles actually have this defect.

The impacted trucks were manufactured between October 13, 2023, and August 11, 2024. During this period, an incorrect parts handling process was used, potentially leading to the damage of the front wheel bearing encoders before vehicle assembly.

To remedy the issue, Stellantis has instructed dealers to inspect the front wheel bearing hub assembly and replace it if necessary at no cost to the owners. Additionally, the company will reimburse owners who may have incurred expenses for this repair prior to the official recall announcement. Instructions for reimbursement will be included in owner letters set to be mailed out on December 19.

For further information, owners can contact Stellantis customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or visit the automaker’s recall site. The reference number for this recall is 97B.

It is important to note that this recall is separate from a previous stability-control-related recall involving 1.2 million Ram trucks announced in September. That recall was related to a software issue in 2021-2024 Ram 1500 pickups. The 2025 model, subject to the current recall, features updated styling, new technology features, and a twin-turbo V-6 engine, replacing the traditional Hemi V-8.

Stellantis is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers, taking proactive measures to address any potential concerns and maintain the high standards of quality associated with the Ram Trucks brand.
