BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has recently filed for regulatory approval for its upcoming hybrid model, the Seal 06 wagon. This new addition to the Seal family is set to offer customers a larger alternative to the Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedan. The Seal 06 wagon is expected to cater to customers with a higher demand for load capacity, as it is slightly larger in size compared to the sedan variant.

According to the latest catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Seal 06 wagon will be available in two versions, both of which are plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models. These models will be manufactured at BYD’s various production bases located in Changsha, Hunan; Hefei, Anhui; Jinan, Shandong; Zhengzhou, Henan; and Shenzhen, Guangdong.

The dimensions of the Seal 06 wagon measure 4,850 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. These dimensions make it slightly larger than the Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedan. The wagon will weigh between 1,700 kg and 1,800 kg, with both versions capable of reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.

Powering the Seal 06 wagon is a 1,498 ml engine with a maximum power output of 74 kW. It features a single motor with peak power options of 120 kW and 160 kW. The model appears to be a new addition to BYD’s lineup, built upon the success of the Seal 06 DM-i sedan.

In addition to the Seal 06 series, the Seal family also includes the Seal EV electric sedan, the Seal 07 DM-i hybrid sedan, and the Seal 05 DM-i hybrid sedan. In the January-February period, the Seal family contributed significantly to BYD’s new energy vehicle (NEV) sales, selling a total of 62,013 vehicles and accounting for 9.95 percent of the company’s NEV sales during the same period.

The Seal 06 wagon is currently open for public feedback until March 26, after which it is expected to undergo final regulatory procedures before being made available for sale in China. Stay tuned for more updates on BYD’s latest hybrid offering as it prepares to hit the market.
