Japanese automotive components manufacturer Yazaki Group has launched a new joint venture in Beijing, China, in partnership with IAT Automobile Technology Company Ltd. The focus of this joint venture, named Beijing IAT Yazaki New Energy Technology Company Ltd, is on the development and production of high-voltage electrical systems for new energy vehicles (NEVs).

The opening ceremony of the new joint venture took place at its base in Beijing E-Town, an economic and technological development area in south-eastern Beijing. The ceremony was attended by key figures including Riku Yazaki, the president and representative director of Yazaki Group, Xuan Qiwu, chairman of IAT, and Akifumi Masui, chairman of YCIC.

IAT Automobile Technology Company Ltd is a Beijing-listed design and engineering company that focuses on the NEV segment. The company is involved in developing platforms for smart battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and producing related components.

Yazaki Group, on the other hand, is a global manufacturer of electrical systems, including automotive wire harnesses, smart cockpits, and battery-related components. With contracts with most of the world’s global vehicle manufacturers, Yazaki Group holds a significant share in the global automotive wiring harness market.

The collaboration between Yazaki Group and IAT aims to leverage the technological capabilities of both companies to expand their presence in China’s NEV sector. High-voltage electrical systems are considered the “heart” of NEVs, directly impacting the vehicle’s energy efficiency, driving range, and safety.

Over the next two years, the joint venture will focus on developing power battery systems, drive systems, charging, and distribution systems with the goal of launching mass production. Xuan Qiwu expressed optimism about the future of the new energy vehicle industry and emphasized the joint efforts of both companies in overcoming technical challenges and promoting the market application of related products.
