SAIC-GM-Wuling recalls 1,116 Baojun Yep over EBS software issue

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd. (SGMW) has announced a recall of 1,116 Baojun Yep vehicles due to a software issue in the Electronic Brake Assist (EBS) system. The recall affects models produced between April 20 and June 14, 2023. The software fault in the EBS system arises from a problem with the 365-day calendar used for timing calculations. Specifically, the system encounters an error when reading the date on the last day of a leap year, leading to incorrect communication within the EBS and potential brake assistance failure.

To address the issue, SGMW will upgrade the EBS software in the affected vehicles. Some cars have already received the software update and will not require additional attention. The company will reach out to impacted customers through registered mail, phone calls, and other communication methods to provide instructions for the software upgrade.

The Baojun Yep is a compact urban SUV designed for young drivers, offering a balance of practicality and fun features. Available in Flagship and Deluxe Edition trims, the vehicle boasts a 303 km CLTC range, fast charging capabilities, and various customizable options. With a 28.1 kWh battery, the Baojun Yep is well-suited for city driving and short trips, charging from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes.

Measuring 3381 mm in length, the Baojun Yep showcases innovative design elements like “refrigerator-like” side-opening rear doors and a 35-liter front trunk that can double as a fridge. The interior features a JoyBox setup with a 10.25″ twin-screen configuration and customizable dashboard spaces.

In terms of technology, the Baojun Yep offers KiOS software, DJI’s LingXi ADAS system with automated parking, and a 360-degree camera. One unique feature allows drivers to share messages or images with others through the rear screen, enhancing connectivity for tech-savvy, smartphone-driven consumers.
