Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Motor’s logistics arm, Anji Logistics, recently unveiled its latest addition to its fleet, the Anji Soundness. The 36th self-operated roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel was officially named and delivered by Jinling Shipyard, China Merchants, before embarking on its maiden voyage to Europe. This marks a significant milestone for the company, as the Anji Soundness joins the ranks of the world’s largest ro-ro vessels.

The Anji Soundness, a sister ship to the Anji Ansheng, represents the latest generation of ultra-large post-Panamax car carriers with the highest loading capacity in the world. Equipped with an advanced intelligent ship system, described as a “super brain,” the vessel can collect data from over 1,300 monitoring points for real-time energy efficiency management and coordination with shore-based platforms.
In a nod to sustainability, the Anji Soundness is pre-equipped for methanol fuel, paving the way for future carbon-neutral operations and showcasing Anji Logistics’ commitment to green and intelligent maritime transport.
For its inaugural journey, the Anji Soundness will visit three major Chinese ports—Shanghai, Lianyungang, and Yantai—to load Chinese-brand passenger vehicles and construction machinery. The vessel will then navigate around the Cape of Good Hope on a 40-day voyage covering approximately 16,000 nautical miles. Its final destinations include the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
