In a recent development, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with BASF Shanghai Coatings (BSC) to drive innovation in automotive coatings and color digitization. The collaboration, announced on SGMW’s WeChat account, aims to enhance the market competitiveness of Wuling-branded vehicles through joint research and development, color innovation, and digital solutions.

Under the partnership, SGMW and BASF will focus on advanced automotive coating technologies, with a particular emphasis on establishing a long-term, mutually beneficial collaboration model. By working closely together, the two companies seek to leverage their respective strengths to create innovative solutions that will elevate the quality and appeal of Wuling vehicles.

To ensure effective communication and coordination, the parties will implement a structured framework that includes regular leadership exchanges and scheduled project team meetings. This mechanism is designed to facilitate seamless collaboration across key areas such as technology development, cost optimization, and production capacity, ultimately expediting project implementation with greater efficiency.

Furthermore, SGMW and BASF plan to continuously review and refine their collaborative efforts to enhance the strategic direction of their partnership. By focusing on architectural foundations, user experience, and market orientation, the companies aim to strengthen supplier engagement, improve product quality, and enhance R&D innovation capabilities.

A key aspect of the collaboration is the establishment of an exclusive “color think tank” and a jointly developed proprietary color database. Through data sharing and system integration, the initiative aims to digitalize the entire color development process. By leveraging digital technologies, SGMW and BASF aim to help Wuling establish a unique brand color identity, enhance its visual design language, and shape a signature color philosophy that sets the brand apart.
