Exploring the All-New vRS Car: A Comfortable Ride with a Sporty Edge
When it comes to driving vRS cars, whether they are powered by traditional combustion engines or cutting-edge electric motors, one common characteristic stands out – the ability to blend sportiness with everyday practicality.
The latest vRS model I had the pleasure of testing boasts exceptionally comfortable seats, making long journeys a breeze. Surprisingly, the cabin remains relatively quiet even at cruising speeds, comparable to a standard Elroq. The inclusion of adaptive dampers as standard further enhances the overall driving experience. At the softer end of the 15-point adjustment scale, the ride becomes delightfully smooth, almost bordering on floaty in its most relaxed setting. Additionally, energy efficiency is not sacrificed in this performance-oriented vehicle. During my test drive, I achieved an impressive 3.4 miles per kilowatt-hour, even with a mix of spirited driving and high-speed motorway cruising, translating to a realistic range of around 270 miles.
Despite its impressive capabilities, the vRS car falls short in providing truly exhilarating driving dynamics. The 335bhp power output delivers brisk acceleration but lacks the explosive performance that sets hearts racing. Accelerator response is somewhat subdued, contributing to a more relaxed driving experience.
One minor gripe I encountered was the regenerative braking system frequently resetting to its adaptive mode, disrupting the driving flow. Additionally, as is typical of MEB platform vehicles, the brake pedal feel is inconsistent and lacks precision.
The variable-ratio steering, while functional, lacks the feedback and responsiveness expected in a sporty vehicle. Despite the rear motor’s higher output compared to the front one, the car’s handling remains composed and neutral, with limited opportunities for spirited driving. The conservative stability control system, combined with staggered tire sizes, prevents the rear end from engaging in playful antics, resulting in a balanced yet somewhat uninspiring driving experience.
