Skoda’s latest offering, the Kylaq, has been unveiled as a direct competitor to the Fiat Grande Panda in the Indian market. Priced at just £7300, this compact SUV is set to make a big impact with its impressive features.
Measuring at 3.99m long, 1.62m tall and 1.78m wide, the Kylaq is Skoda’s smallest SUV yet. It is built on a variant of the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform specifically designed for the Indian market, focusing on comfort, build quality, and safety.
Under the hood, the Kylaq is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that delivers 113bhp and 131lb ft of torque to the front wheels. Drivers can choose between a six-speed manual or torque-converter automatic gearbox, with the manual variant boasting a 0-62mph time of 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 117mph.
Visually, the Kylaq adopts Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, featuring a distinctive grille, sleek LED daytime-running lights, and robust plastic bumpers. Inside, the SUV offers seating for five passengers and a generous 360 litres of boot space, expandable to 1265 litres with the rear seats folded down. Tech-savvy consumers will appreciate the 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, as well as an 8.0-inch digital instrument panel.
For added comfort, select versions of the Kylaq will come equipped with an electric sunroof and optional ventilated seats, catering to the preferences of the Indian market. Priced at 789,000 rupees, equivalent to £7300, the Kylaq is set to hit Indian roads early next year.
While Skoda has not confirmed if the Kylaq will be available in the UK, it is unlikely given the brand’s previous models developed for the Indian market, such as the Kushaq SUV and Slavia saloon, have not made their way to British shores.
Overall, the Skoda Kylaq promises to be a game-changer in the Indian automotive market, offering a blend of style, technology, and affordability that is sure to appeal to a wide range of consumers.
