In October 2024, the European battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) markets showed contrasting results. While BEV registrations saw a 6.3% year-on-year increase with 169,723 units hitting the roads, PHEV volumes dropped by 8.4% to 81,837 registrations.
Skoda made headlines by breaking Tesla’s winning streak, with the Skoda Enyaq securing the top spot in BEV deliveries with 11,188 registrations, marking a 32.3% increase from the previous year. This achievement gave Skoda a 6.6% market share, surpassing Tesla’s Model Y, which came in second with 8,865 units and a 5.2% market share.
Volkswagen’s ID.4 and Audi’s Q4 e-Tron followed closely in third and fourth place, respectively, showcasing the growing competition in the electric vehicle market. The BMW iX1 and Volvo’s EX30 rounded out the top five BEV models for October.
Despite losing the monthly lead, the Tesla Model Y maintained its overall dominance in the market with 164,017 units registered in the year to date. The Model Y was followed by the Tesla Model 3 and Volvo’s EX30 in second and third place, respectively.
In the PHEV market, the Volvo XC60 emerged as the top-selling model in October with 5,658 registrations, representing a 53.4% increase from the previous year. BMW’s X1 and Ford’s Kuga secured the second and third spots, respectively, in PHEV deliveries for the month.
Looking at the year-to-date figures, the Volvo XC60 maintained its lead as the best-selling PHEV model with 46,550 deliveries, followed by the Ford Kuga and Mercedes-Benz GLC in second and third place, respectively.
Overall, the European EV market saw a mix of new players and familiar names making significant strides in October 2024. With the competition heating up and consumer demand for electric vehicles on the rise, it will be interesting to see how these trends continue to evolve in the coming months.
