Vy Buss, Norway’s bus company, has recently placed an order for three Urbino 9 LE electric buses from Solaris Bus & Coach, a part of the Spanish CAF Group. This order marks Solaris’ entry into the Nordic region with its compact, zero-emission battery-electric vehicle.

Scheduled for delivery in July 2025, these buses will be operating in Slemmestad, a suburban area of Oslo. The Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric is a 9m midi-class bus designed for both urban and suburban routes, meeting Class I and Class II homologation standards. The vehicle is equipped with ample seating to ensure passenger comfort over longer distances.

To cater to the Nordic climate, the buses are fitted with a Scandinavian package, which includes enhanced thermal insulation, a snow chain drawer, and special anti-elk lights. Since its launch in 2021, the Urbino 9 LE electric has gained popularity across several European countries, including Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, and Italy.

In Norway alone, over 700 Solaris buses of various models are now in operation. Solaris Norge CEO Sverre Skaar expressed confidence in the new electric bus’s success in the Norwegian market, highlighting its potential for countryside travel and smaller towns. The company is proud to introduce this innovative bus alongside Vy.

In December 2024, Solaris Bus & Coach made headlines by delivering the world’s first ‘battery passport’ with its Urbino 18 electric bus to Berlin’s public transport company BVG. This bus features high-energy batteries with a capacity of around 700kWh, as part of a larger contract for 50 articulated electric buses set to be fulfilled by 2025.
