The next-generation Jeep Compass, owned by Stellantis, is gearing up for production at the Melfi plant in Italy, with plans to debut in Europe this spring. Set to be built on the STLA Medium platform, the new Compass is designed to meet various customer preferences with an expanded powertrain lineup that includes e-Hybrid, e-Hybrid plug-in, and fully electric options.
Stellantis is aiming to boost production at the Melfi plant by introducing hybrid versions of key models like the Jeep Compass, Lancia Gamma, and DS7. The Compass is expected to be the most globally available model for the Jeep brand, starting production in Melfi, Italy in 2025, before expanding to North America and other regions in 2026.
Despite facing criticism in Italy over lower output levels in recent years, Stellantis has unveiled a strategic plan to revitalize its Italian manufacturing operations. The company has committed €2bn in investments in Italy for 2025 and plans to launch new models while maintaining production at all local plants until at least 2032.
The government has also pledged support for the automotive supply chain, with over €1bn earmarked for 2025. However, these funds will not be used to subsidize car purchases as they were in 2024. Stellantis is confident that its planned investments will not require public funding, as it remains dedicated to strengthening its presence in Italy.
As part of the new production strategy, two compact models are expected to be introduced at the Pomigliano plant in southern Italy starting in 2028. This move aligns with Stellantis’ commitment to rejuvenating its Italian operations and ensuring a sustainable future for its manufacturing facilities in the country.
