STMicroelectronics and Geely Auto Group Sign Long-Term Supply Agreement for SiC Devices
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- STMicroelectronics and Geely Auto Group have recently inked a long-term supply agreement for silicon carbide (SiC) devices, strengthening their collaboration on SiC components. This agreement aims to enhance the performance of Geely’s mid-to-high-end battery electric vehicle (BEV) brands by utilizing STMicroelectronics’ SiC power devices. The SiC devices will enable Geely to improve its electric vehicles’ performance, reduce charging times, extend driving range, and accelerate the transition to new energy vehicles.
STMicroelectronics and Geely will also establish a joint laboratory to drive innovation in automotive electronic/electrical (E/E) architectures, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and new energy vehicles. This collaboration will facilitate the development of cutting-edge solutions for in-vehicle infotainment, smart cockpit systems, and electric drive inverters.
Geely’s electric drive inverters already benefit from STMicroelectronics’ third-generation SiC MOSFET devices, which significantly enhance efficiency. STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader, boasts advanced SiC production technology and a vertically integrated supply chain. The company’s increased investment in the Chinese market includes a joint venture with SANAN Optoelectronics to establish an 8-inch SiC device manufacturing plant in Chongqing city.
In May 2024, Geely Auto Group reported robust sales performance, with over 160,000 vehicles sold, marking a year-on-year increase of over 38%. New energy vehicles, including Geely, Lynk & Co, and ZEEKR brands, saw a significant growth in sales, reaching 58,673 units in May alone. For the first five months of the year, Geely Auto Group sold 254,226 new energy vehicles, reflecting a remarkable 126% surge compared to the same period last year.
