Svolt Energy, a prominent battery maker that recently separated from Great Wall Motor, made headlines with the unveiling of its latest innovation – the Fengxing Short Blade Battery. This groundbreaking battery boasts a 6C charging multiplier, allowing it to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 8.5 minutes. The battery, which was introduced at Svolt’s 5th Battery Day event in Chengdu, Sichuan province, offers an impressive energy density of 185 Wh/kg.
The Fengxing Short Blade Battery is powered by Svolt’s third-generation short blade cells, featuring high-energy cathode and anode materials. This advanced technology not only enhances charging efficiency but also extends the battery’s lifespan. In addition to the fast-charging version, Svolt also introduced a long-life variant of the Fengxing battery, boasting a 15-year, 600,000-kilometer lifespan and a cell cycle life of over 5,000 cycles.
In the competitive battery industry, the term “C” refers to the battery’s charge multiplier, with 6C indicating the ability to fully charge the battery in just one-sixth of an hour, equivalent to 10 minutes. This puts the Fengxing battery ahead of its competitors, as it offers a faster charging rate than most batteries currently in production vehicles.
Furthermore, Svolt unveiled its first battery specifically designed for off-road vehicle models, capable of operating in extreme temperatures ranging from -43°C to 60°C. This robust battery features a pulse discharge power of 5C in extreme cold conditions, providing exceptional reliability and power in harsh climates. The battery, with a capacity of up to 59 kWh and supporting 800V charging, has already been integrated into Great Wall Motor’s Tank 500 Hi-4-Z model.
In addition to these groundbreaking innovations, Svolt also introduced new batteries tailored for the commercial vehicle market. These batteries come in both fast-charging and long-life versions, catering to the diverse needs of commercial vehicle operators. The fast-charging commercial vehicle battery boasts a capacity of 91.4 kWh and supports a 4C charging multiplier, enabling it to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 14 minutes. On the other hand, the long-life version offers a capacity of 95.7 kWh with a 3C charging multiplier and comes with an 8-year or 1.5-million-kilometer warranty.
Svolt celebrated a significant milestone as its one millionth battery pack rolled off the production line at its Chengdu manufacturing facility. The company has been making strides in the global market, with 5.8 GWh of battery shipments to overseas customers from January to November, accounting for 27 percent of total shipments during this period. In the domestic market, Svolt secured a 3.49 percent share with 2.34 GWh of battery shipments in China in November, as reported by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
Overall, Svolt’s latest innovations in battery technology demonstrate its commitment to advancing the electric vehicle industry and meeting the evolving needs of consumers. With a focus on fast-charging, long-life, and extreme climate performance, Svolt is poised to make a significant impact on the future of electric vehicles.
