Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation made headlines this week with the announcement of a preliminary agreement with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Company, the automotive subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Company Ltd. This agreement paves the way for Mitsubishi to source a battery electric vehicle (BEV) model from Foxtron, starting from next year.

Foxtron, known for being Apple’s main iPhone manufacturing sub-contractor, has been making strides in its goal to become a major global BEV contract assembler. In 2020, the company introduced the MIH (Mobility in Harmony) platform, designed to offer global automakers a cost-effective and efficient entry into the BEV segment, supported by a well-established supply chain.

As per the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Mitsubishi and Foxtron, the latter will develop a new BEV model based on its MIH open platform. This model will be marketed by Mitsubishi in the Asia-Pacific region, including countries like Australia and New Zealand, starting in the second half of 2026. The vehicle is expected to boast exceptional driving performance and feature an advanced infotainment system.

Production of the new BEV model will be handled by Yulon Motor Company Ltd, a Taiwanese vehicle production partner of Nissan Motor, with Foxtron providing manufacturing management services. Mitsubishi and Foxtron are now in discussions to finalize the deal, showcasing a promising collaboration between the two entities.

Mitsubishi also revealed its plans to explore further opportunities to enhance its electrified vehicle lineup in key regional markets by working closely with its Alliance partners, which include Nissan and Renault.

In addition to this partnership news, nominations have opened for the prestigious Just Auto Excellence Awards, a renowned programme that celebrates innovation, leadership, and impact in the industry. This is an opportunity for companies to showcase their achievements, highlight advancements in the industry, and gain global recognition. Nominations are currently being accepted, and interested parties are encouraged to submit their entries for a chance to be recognized among the best in the industry.

Overall, Mitsubishi’s collaboration with Foxtron and the opportunity to participate in the Excellence Awards demonstrate the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the automotive sector. This partnership is a significant step towards expanding Mitsubishi’s presence in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market, setting the stage for future growth and success.
