The Bugatti Tourbillon Doesn’t Have Real Speakers. It Uses Something Much Cooler

The Bugatti Tourbillon is making waves in the automotive world with its groundbreaking innovations. From a steering wheel that rotates around a central hub to a titanium gauge cluster and 3D-printed suspension components, this car is truly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the industry. However, one of the most impressive features of the Tourbillon is its unconventional sound system.

Traditionally, car speakers use magnets and voice coils to amplify sound. However, the Tourbillon takes a different approach by using piezoelectric elements that vibrate the car’s carbon-fiber tub. Essentially, the entire chassis of the Tourbillon acts as a speaker, creating a unique and immersive audio experience for drivers and passengers alike.

During a recent visit to Rimac’s headquarters, CEO Mate Rimac demonstrated the Tourbillon’s innovative sound system to Top Gear magazine. By using piezoelectric transducers to transmit vibrations directly into the carbon-fiber tub, the Tourbillon is able to achieve exceptional sound quality while saving weight and space in the process.

Rimac explained, “Believe me, the sound quality of that car is in a different universe compared to a Chiron. So we saved weight, space, and improved the sound quality.” This revolutionary approach to audio technology sets the Tourbillon apart from other supercars on the market and showcases Bugatti’s commitment to innovation and excellence.

While the Tourbillon may be the first car to use piezoelectric transducers to turn its body structure into a speaker, it is not the first to incorporate innovative audio solutions into its design. Mercedes-Benz introduced a system called Front Bass in the 2013 SL, which utilized the front firewall of the car as a speaker box. However, unlike the Tourbillon, Mercedes-Benz’s system relied on traditional electromagnetic speakers.

Overall, the Bugatti Tourbillon is a testament to the brand’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive technology. With its groundbreaking sound system and other cutting-edge features, the Tourbillon is sure to leave a lasting impression on car enthusiasts around the world.
