Toyota is gearing up to introduce two new electric vehicles in the Chinese market by mid-2026. The upcoming flagship models, the Toyota bZ7 and Lexus ES, are part of the company’s strategy to regain market share from local electric vehicle leaders like BYD. Let’s take a closer look at these sleek new electric cars.

The Toyota bZ7 was recently unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2025, where Toyota announced its plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup in China. The bZ7, developed in collaboration with Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co, and Intelligent ElectroMobility R&D Center by TOYOTA, is over 5 meters long and will compete with premium electric sedan models like the BYD Han L, Tesla Model S, and BMW i5 in the Chinese market.

Toyota emphasized that the bZ7 will embody its commitment to safe, reliable, and high-quality manufacturing while incorporating China’s advanced technology. The electric sedan is expected to feature the latest intelligent tech and is set to launch within a year, joining Toyota’s expanding bZ series lineup in China.

In addition to the bZ7, Toyota also unveiled the new Lexus ES at the event. The eighth-generation ES will be the first next-gen Lexus model to offer both EV and HEV powertrain options. Based on the LF-ZC concept, the new ES will come with FWD and AWD powertrain options, offering impressive driving ranges of up to 685 km (425 miles) and 610 km (379 miles) on the CLTC cycle, respectively.

Inside, the Lexus ES will introduce innovative features like Responsive Hidden Switches, seamlessly integrating physical controls into the interior for added convenience. It will also include a Sensory Concierge for a personalized in-car experience. The electric sedan, measuring 5,140 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,560 mm tall, is the second of three new Lexus electric vehicles set to debut by March 2026, following the RZ and UX models.
