RBW Electric Cars, a relatively young British EV automaker, has reached a significant milestone of $8 million as it expands its vehicle production to North America. The company is known for its bespoke electric vehicles that combine modern technology with a classic car aesthetic, offering a unique driving experience for consumers.

Founded in 2017 by Peter Swain, RBW Electric Cars emerged from Swain’s restoration company, RBW Classic & Sports Cars. The company partnered with Continental Engineering Services (CES) to develop a proof of concept for a battery electric vehicle (BEV). In 2020, RBW launched its first EV, the Roadster, followed by the introduction of the RBW GT in 2023.

In January 2022, RBW delivered its first Roadster EV to a UK client and later secured an investment to scale its production processes. The company opened a new UK EV factory and announced plans to establish a production site in the US to cater to North American consumers.

Recently, RBW Electric Cars broke ground on its US production facility in Danville, Virginia. The 29,000-square-foot facility will house the company’s EV assembly, sales, and marketing operations, as well as the team at Spirit EV, which provides the powertrain solutions for RBW’s models. Former NASCAR driver Peyton Sellers, a Danville native, will lead the US operations and oversee the production of left-hand drive versions of the Roadster and GT EVs.

The Roadster and GT models offer up to 150 miles of estimated range, a top speed of 90 mph, and acceleration from 0-60 mph in 8 seconds. Pricing for the Roadster starts at £108,000 ($143,000) in the UK, with US pricing to be announced. RBW plans to unveil additional product development initiatives and future vehicle lines in the fall.

Overall, RBW Electric Cars’ expansion into the US market marks a significant step in the company’s growth and commitment to delivering high-quality, British-designed electric vehicles to consumers worldwide. With a focus on blending classic design with cutting-edge electrification, RBW is poised to make a lasting impact in the EV industry.
