The Ford Kuga’s Cabin: A Closer Look

When Ford introduced the updated Kuga, one of the key improvements was the additional cabin space that was achieved without altering the wheelbase. This was a result of better packaging, as the car was slightly lower and narrower than its predecessor. Despite these changes, the driving position in the Kuga remained quite recumbent for an SUV, with the fascia encroaching slightly on front-row knee space.

However, rear passenger space in the Kuga was decent, though not class-leading. It could comfortably accommodate large adults, although competitors like the Honda CR-V and Kia Sorento offered slightly better second-row legroom. On the flip side, the Kuga excelled in rear headroom, outperforming the CR-V in this aspect.

Boot space was significantly improved in the updated Kuga, with a minimum load length of 800mm and a usable width of 1080mm, aligning closely with the standards in the 4×4 segment. The cabin quality and appearance of the Kuga met Ford’s high standards, featuring a mix of grained plastics, dark grey inlay trims, and matt chrome detailing.

Similar to the Focus and C-Max, the Kuga’s dashboard exuded a modern and substantial feel, devoid of any rugged 4×4 touches. The interior ambiance was simple yet elegant, catering to everyday family use. Ford was generous with the Kuga’s equipment levels, offering six trims to choose from with a plethora of optional features.

Entry-level Zetec models came equipped with 17-inch alloys, DAB radio, manual air conditioning, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, keyless start, and more. Moving up to Titanium models added part leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, and Ford’s Sync3 infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen.

For those seeking a sportier look, the ST-Line and ST-Line X models offered aggressive styling, firmer suspension, sports seats, and more. The range-topping Vignale trim included all the features of the Titanium plus premium additions like a unique bodykit, LED rear lights, and a nine-speaker Sony audio system.

Overall, the Ford Kuga’s cabin was well-appointed and offered a comfortable and practical environment for daily use. While some may have desired more character in the design, the Kuga excelled in terms of functionality and quality.
