Skodas have a longstanding reputation for being simple, no-nonsense vehicles, and the mk2 Skoda Octavia stayed true to this theme. However, with the introduction of the Rapid, the Octavia was positioned towards the mainstream ‘large family’ sector, prompting Skoda to incorporate some smart technology options.

The interior of the Octavia offered more space than expected, with clear and simple controls. The driver’s and front passenger’s seats were large and comfortable, perfect for long journeys. The rear seats were equally accommodating, with wide door openings, ample headroom, and a generous amount of storage space. The rear seats could be folded down to increase the already impressive 590 litres of boot space to 1590 litres.

The cabin’s design was clean and straightforward, with crisp dials and easy-to-read display systems. The facelift added a touch of modernity and plushness to the already ergonomic cabin. The Octavia came in six trim levels – S, SE, SE-L, Laurin & Klement, Scout, and vRS.

The entry-level S model came with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, air conditioning, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. SE models added features like front fog lights, cruise control, and dual-zone climate control. The SE-L trim included 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, and Alcantara and leather upholstery.

The range-topping Laurin & Klement trim boasted 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and a 9.2-inch infotainment touchscreen display. The Scout model offered off-road capabilities with adaptive LED headlights and a dedicated off-road mode.

For those seeking more excitement, the vRS model was available with either a 181bhp 2.0TDI engine or a 227bhp 2.0TSI unit. The vRS 245 variant provided the same power as a Golf GTI Performance, with added features like 19-inch alloy wheels and a sportier exhaust.

In conclusion, the mk2 Skoda Octavia offered a blend of practicality, comfort, and technology across its trim levels, making it a versatile choice for families and enthusiasts alike.
