Vauxhall Corsa Electric Gets Range Boost and V2L Capabilities
The Long Range version of the Vauxhall Corsa Electric has recently received an update that enhances its driving range by 14 miles. This improvement is attributed to advancements in cell chemistry within the nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery and optimizations made to the electric car’s motor to reduce energy consumption.
With these enhancements, the Long Range variant of the Corsa Electric can now travel up to 266 miles on a single charge, compared to the previous 252-mile range. This places it ahead of competitors like the Renault 5, which achieves 252 miles from a larger 52kWh battery, and the Hyundai Inster, with a 49kWh pack that yields 229 miles.
Not only does the updated Corsa Electric offer improved range, but it also introduces vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities. This feature allows the car’s battery to power external devices at up to 3.6kW and 16A. To utilize this function, a V2L ‘gun’ is required, which can be purchased from Vauxhall dealers.
Since the Corsa Electric shares similarities with the Peugeot e-208, it is anticipated that the e-208 will receive the same upgrades in the near future. The starting price for the updated Corsa Electric Long Range model will be £28,900, which is £1395 more than the regular version offering 134bhp and a 221-mile range. Deliveries are set to commence in May.
Alongside the revised Corsa Electric, Vauxhall has also announced price increases across the rest of the model range. The regular Corsa Electric in Yes trim now costs £27,505, reflecting a £675 increase. The Design and GS models have seen a £500 price hike, while the Long Range GS and Ultimate models are now £725 more expensive than before.
