Vauxhall Mokka Review 2025, Price & Specs

The Vauxhall Mokka comes equipped with an automatic gearbox that is user-friendly and appeals to a wide range of drivers. While this configuration is adequate for most, those seeking a bit more power or driver engagement may prefer the six-speed manual option. The manual gearbox offers a natural feel, although the long and vague gearchange may not be to everyone’s liking.

The Mokka with the pure-petrol engine provides a good balance of performance, refinement, and efficiency. Weighing in at 1220kg, it feels punchy with 134bhp and 169lb ft of torque. However, there are some drawbacks. The engine emits a droning noise below 1500rpm and requires revving over 2000rpm to make real progress, despite its torque output. While it feels strong for everyday driving, it may lack authority when overtaking on highways or A-roads compared to rivals with more power.

The automatic gearbox, while convenient, can dampen the car’s responsiveness and performance slightly. Although you can manually select gears using shift paddles, the transmission may downshift on its own even in manual mode. Additionally, the positioning of the brake pedal higher than the accelerator may take some getting used to and can make driving in heavy traffic or at slow speeds slightly more challenging.

Overall, the Mokka offers a decent driving experience with a good balance of performance and efficiency. While it may not be the most potent in its class, it caters well to its target audience. Drivers looking for a bit more engagement may prefer the manual gearbox for a more hands-on driving experience.
