Volvo is gearing up to unveil its flagship electric sedan, the ES90, which is set to be one of the most technologically advanced cars on the market. With its debut just around the corner on March 5, 2025, Volvo has given us a sneak peek into what to expect from this cutting-edge vehicle.
The ES90 will be the first Volvo vehicle to feature dual NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin computers, making it the most powerful in terms of computing capacity. These high-tech computers deliver an impressive 508 trillion operations per second, a significant leap from Volvo’s previous models and a massive improvement in computing power. This, combined with Volvo’s Superset tech stack, will make the electric sedan a truly software-defined car, enhancing efficiency and safety like never before.
Anders Bell, Volvo’s chief engineer, emphasized that the ES90 will continue to improve with regular over-the-air (OTA) updates, a feature that is now standard on all Volvo models based on the Superset. The vehicle is equipped with an array of sensors, including lidar, radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors, to provide advanced safety and driver assistance functions. Volvo’s “Safe Space Technology” safety system is designed to detect and avoid other vehicles, pedestrians, and objects, even in low light conditions.
The ES90 is Volvo’s second electric vehicle, following the three-row EX90 SUV, and both are built on the Superset tech stack. Volvo plans to upgrade the EX90 with dual NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin computers as well, with existing customers receiving the upgrade free of charge. The ES90’s design takes cues from the hybrid S90 sedan and features a modern aesthetic with elements borrowed from the EX90, such as upright tail lights.
If you’re eager to see the ES90 in action, you can tune in to the live-stream event on March 5. Stay tuned for more details on this highly anticipated electric sedan from Volvo.
