Volvo Cars has unveiled a teaser image for the upcoming ES90 electric sedan, scheduled to be revealed on 5 March 2025. The ES90 is built on Volvo’s innovative Superset tech stack, which serves as a unified hardware and software platform for future electric models.

One of the standout features of the ES90 is its utilization of a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, a significant enhancement in core computing capacity. This configuration plays a crucial role in managing AI-driven safety features, sensors, and battery management within the vehicle.

Anders Bell, Volvo Car’s chief engineering and technology officer, emphasized the advanced technology integrated into the ES90, stating that it is designed to continually improve over time. The car prioritizes safety, thanks to the state-of-the-art Superset tech stack it is built on.

The ES90 is the second vehicle to leverage Volvo’s Superset tech stack, following the EX90. This stack enables swift updates through over-the-air updates, allowing for enhancements in safety, technology, and performance. These updates may include connectivity features, safety improvements, and increased battery range based on driving behaviors.

In terms of safety features, the ES90 is equipped with a driver understanding system and an array of sensors, including lidar, radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. These systems work together to detect obstacles and activate safety measures like collision avoidance, enhancing passenger safety.

Volvo has also announced plans to upgrade the EX90 models to feature the dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, replacing the existing setup. Bell reiterated Volvo’s commitment to innovation in technology, aiming to lead in software-defined cars and continuously improve their vehicles.

The unveiling of the ES90 comes on the heels of Volvo’s record-breaking retail sales, revenue, and core operating profit for the full-year 2024. Despite this success, the company has cautioned that 2025 could pose challenges due to market conditions.

Overall, Volvo’s introduction of the ES90 electric sedan showcases the brand’s dedication to technological advancements and safety in their vehicles. With a focus on continuous improvement and innovation, Volvo is positioning itself as a leader in the automotive industry.
