Wuling Launches New All-Electric Multipurpose Vehicle

On February 14th, Wuling unveiled the Wuling Zhi Guang EV, a versatile all-electric vehicle designed to meet the needs of modern consumers. With two variants priced between ¥47,800 to ¥50,800 (US$6,580 – US$7,000), this new offering combines practicality with individuality in the multipurpose vehicle market.

Exterior Design:
The Wuling Zhi Guang EV boasts a boxy exterior design with a closed grille housing the charging port and LED daytime running lights integrated into the headlight units. The front bumper features a sporty design with C-shaped flow channels on each side, adding to its visual appeal.

The side profile showcases the “K-Car” style, optimizing interior space with a wide sliding door and a roof-mounted luggage rack. The rear end features a boxy design with a nearly 90° opening tailgate, making loading and unloading easier. Its compact dimensions of 3685mm in length, 1530mm in width, and 1765mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2600mm, make it ideal for urban driving.

Interior Design:
Inside, the Wuling Zhi Guang EV continues the brand’s minimalist approach, with physical buttons and knobs for user-friendly operation. The dashboard features a simple monochrome LCD instrument panel, a two-spoke steering wheel, and an infotainment system above the air conditioning vents. The vehicle also includes a rotary gear shifter for convenience.

The seats are versatile, with both front and rear seats able to fold flat, increasing cargo space from 527L to 1117L when needed. The interior also features mounting holes for additional accessories like folding tables and storage compartments, providing ample storage options for users.

Powertrain and Performance:
The Wuling Zhi Guang EV is powered by a 30kW rear-mounted electric motor and a 17.7kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a range of 201 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle supports DC fast charging, allowing for a 30% to 80% charge in just 35 minutes. Higher-end variants also feature external power supply capabilities, with a maximum output of 3.3kW, enabling the use of small appliances.

The Evolution of Wuling Zhi Guang:
The Wuling Zhi Guang has been a staple in China’s micro-car segment since its launch in 2002, catering to the evolving needs of consumers. As Wuling transitions to electric vehicles, the brand continues to innovate and adapt to changing market demands. The Zhi Guang EV, with its “Freedom Light” concept, offers users space freedom, cargo flexibility, and freedom in travel, redefining the commercial vehicle for the modern era.

In conclusion, the Wuling Zhi Guang EV represents a significant leap forward for the brand, embodying the transition from the “Struggle Light” to the “Freedom Light.” With its blend of practicality and personalization, this all-electric multipurpose vehicle is set to make a mark in the evolving automotive landscape.
