Xiaomi’s SU7 Electric Sedan Faces Longer Delivery Waits for Chinese Customers

Chinese customers who are eager to get their hands on Xiaomi’s SU7 electric sedan are now facing longer delivery wait times than when the model was first launched. The SU7 has proven to be a popular choice among consumers, with over 180,000 units already delivered and an additional 140,000-150,000 vehicles still waiting to be delivered.

Xiaomi officially introduced the SU7 on March 28, 2024, offering three versions – Standard, Pro, and Max – at competitive starting prices. Deliveries of the Standard and Max versions began in April, while the SU7 Pro deliveries commenced in May.

However, Chinese customers ordering the standard version of the Xiaomi SU7 are now experiencing a 35-38 week wait for delivery, a significant increase from the initial 28-week delivery timeframe. Similarly, the SU7 Pro and SU7 Max models also have longer delivery wait times compared to a year ago.

Interestingly, the extended delivery wait times for the SU7 come at a time when most other EV models typically see a decline in delivery times as production capacity increases. This trend is uncommon in the industry and highlights the continued demand and popularity of Xiaomi’s electric sedan.

By the end of 2024, the SU7 had accumulated over 248,000 locked-in orders, with more than 135,000 deliveries completed. Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, announced that cumulative sales of the SU7 exceeded 320,000 units within just 11 months of its market presence.

To meet the growing demand for the SU7, Xiaomi is expanding its production capacity, with a factory in Beijing currently operational and a second phase under construction. The company aims to have an annual capacity of 150,000 units for each phase to cater to the increasing orders for its electric vehicles.

Despite the challenges posed by longer delivery wait times, Xiaomi remains committed to fulfilling customer orders and providing high-quality electric vehicles to meet the evolving needs of the market. The success of the SU7 reflects the brand’s strong presence in the electric vehicle industry and its ability to meet consumer demand for innovative and reliable transportation solutions.
