Electric vehicle (EV) makers in China saw an uptick in insurance registrations last week, as deliveries typically increase toward the end of the month. Nio Inc, which includes the Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands, registered 5,000 vehicles for insurance in China last week, marking a 2.04 percent increase from the previous week’s 4,900 registrations.
Nio’s flagship brand vehicles had 3,250 insurance registrations last week, representing a 30.00 percent increase from the previous week. Onvo, a sub-brand of Nio, recorded 1,510 insurance registrations, a 12.21 percent decrease from the previous week. Firefly, another sub-brand of Nio, registered 230 vehicles for insurance, marking a 66.18 percent decrease from the previous week.
Nio Inc delivered a total of 24,925 vehicles in June, achieving a new high for the year and the second-highest on record. The company continues to experience growth in its delivery numbers, with Onvo delivering 6,400 vehicles in June and Firefly delivering 3,932 vehicles.
Tesla, on the other hand, had 10,620 insurance registrations in China last week, reflecting a 7.27 percent increase from the previous week’s 9,900 registrations. The US EV maker operates a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, catering to both local and overseas markets.
In June, Tesla China sold a total of 71,599 vehicles, including those sold in China and exported from China. This figure represents a 0.83 percent increase from the same period last year. Tesla’s retail sales in China for June were 61,484 vehicles, the second-highest for the year.
Xpeng, Li Auto, BYD, Xiaomi, Zeekr, Leapmotor, and Aito also experienced increases in insurance registrations last week, indicating a positive trend in the Chinese EV market. These companies are actively expanding their offerings and increasing their production capacities to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region.
